Excellent! December 13, 2008 These were a really great deal on a Friday sale, so I bought quite a few cans for gifts for my husband's office. My only disappointment was that two of the cans were dented and not gift worthy. An email to Amazon had two replacement cans at my door in record time. So, I've been munching on the contents of the reject cans. I can't fault the peanuts. They're big and crunchy and not overly salty. The packet inside the can is NOT a flavoring packet!
Great taste, fresh flavor minus one star for being really hard December 12, 2008 I have all my teeth and I used to purchase fresh hand cooked peanuts from a company in Virginia (not this one) every year, so I know what fresh hand cooked peanuts taste like. These are pretty good as far as flavor go, but they seem undercooked to me. They are so hard that your jaw really gets a workout chewing them. If you are a raw peanut lover, these are for you. I found them exceedingly crunchy - I don't know what the other reviewer was talking about unless he/she has only had the Planters kind of "old" peanuts that taste like jarred peanut butter.
good nuts December 12, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
They are big and crunchy. Actually very crunchy with nice flavor. I believe the "flavor packet" the one star reviewer was speaking about was the "fresh pax" drier agent...do not add it to the peanuts.
Sounds like a peanut, smells like a peanut, tastes like a peanut December 11, 2008 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased several cans of the Peanut Shop of Williamsburg Hand Cooked Virginia Peanuts of the All Natural variety and reviewed them with 5 stars. I then ordered several cans of these in the "drum" can and I'm confused because they appear to be the same wonderful peanuts. First of all, all cans have a paper label, not printed on metal cans of the past. Secondly, the ingredients on these do not say "expeller pressed" peanut oil, but simply "peanut oil." Thirdly, "sea salt" is simply "salt" on these cans. Lastly, these peanuts have another "super" before the "extra large" descriptor in the size of both. I think all these peanuts are the same, simply different paper labels on the cans and assorted production dates on the bottoms of the cans. A rose is a rose and a peanut is a peanut. When I called the company to inquire, I was told that, "Sea salt is a stronger taste than regular iodized salt." He went on to add that, "All the peanuts are exactly the same variety and they are prepared in the same hand cooked manner." Regardless, these peanuts make Virginia proud and I'm happy to share them with friends at Amazon's competitive prices! I'd recommend whichever are the lowest price and you can decorate the cans as you wish. I will.
Not crisp at all December 5, 2008 6 out of 19 found this review helpful
I have never tasted more horrible tasting peanuts. The flavor is supplied in a sealed pouch and you are supposed to add it and shake this huge tin. The peanuts are not crunchy and all attempts to make them crunchy failed. Amazon does not take food stuff back. Do not waste your money.
